SPLITEVENS · DFRANKIEJ PRODUCTIONS

Privacy & your data

You can play without signing in. Google sign-in, private cloud sync, and public leaderboard participation are separate choices.

This page describes the published application, version 4.1.0. You can use account features when sign-in is available, or keep playing locally without an account.

Play locally: keep progress in this browser.

Enable private sync: save progress to your SplitEvens account across devices.

Join public ranks: make eligible, explicitly submitted results visible under your chosen nickname.

Playing in this browser

SplitEvens stores your puzzle moves, saved attempts, earned best routes, guidance status, and preferences on your device. It also caches the public game shell and downloaded public puzzles for offline use. The web app’s offline cache excludes account and API responses; music can be cached after you choose to play it. Clearing site data, browser storage eviction, or changing browsers can remove these copies. A completed local save is not a cloud backup.

Device saves in Settings can export a recovery file. That file can contain your saved routes and account-related progress, so keep it private. Other people who use this browser or device may be able to access local copies.

Restarting or replaying a practice round clears its current moves, not your earned best solutions or assistance history. Other puzzle saves remain separate. This is not a data-deletion control.

Optional Google sign-in

Google sign-in starts only when you choose it. SplitEvens uses Google's response to verify your identity, then stores Google's account identifier and an internal SplitEvens account identifier. The application does not retain your Google name, email address, or photo as profile fields, and does not publish them. SplitEvens does not request access to Gmail, Drive, Contacts, or Calendar.

Google handles the provider sign-in. Cloudflare hosts SplitEvens and its account database; cloud progress is stored by SplitEvens on Cloudflare, not in Google Drive. Signing in alone does not enable private sync or public participation.

Private cloud sync

When you enable sync and choose which progress to use, the service stores puzzle identifiers, move histories, alternate attempts, earned best routes, guidance status, device identifiers, revisions, and save times. These records support recovery and cross-device play. Conflicting attempts remain separate until you choose how to continue.

Importing guest saves is an explicit choice. Choosing cloud progress does not automatically import your guest routes. Turning sync off stops new synchronization but does not delete existing cloud progress or device copies.

Hints, submissions, and public results

Requesting a verified hint sends the puzzle and your current route to the service, including when you play as a guest. The service records the request and guidance exposure so retries are safe and guided results are classified consistently. If you later sign in, known guest guidance is linked to your account even if you decline to import guest saves. A later hint does not erase a previously earned unassisted best.

Submitting a result sends its route for validation. Submission is a separate, explicit action. A signed-in submission without public participation remains a private validated result. If you opt into public participation, eligible submitted results can show your chosen nickname, public profile identifier, puzzle, split count, guided or unassisted category, daily completion points, total points, and rank. Your Google profile is not used as your public nickname.

Turning public participation off hides your public profile and ranked entries; it does not delete the underlying results. Sharing a result uses your device's share sheet or copies text and a game link after you choose Share.

Hints, recovery checks, and points

Rules help and ordinary Undo are free. A successful new hint or verified position check during an open daily deducts 10 completion points, to a minimum of 20. Repeated advice for the same position and purpose does not charge twice. Inconclusive checks, practice and later archive play are free. Daily scores still compare fewest validated splits, with separate guided and unassisted groups.

To remember advice and prevent duplicate deductions, the service stores the puzzle, a fingerprint of the checked position, the advice type, and a timestamp against your guest session or account. Signing in carries known guest assistance into your account. These records remain separate from cloud saves and survive deleting cloud progress; deleting your SplitEvens account removes its assistance records. Advice requested after a daily closes cannot reduce that closed daily’s points.

SplitEvens 4.0 web edition

SplitEvens 4.0 is the standard game. Sign-in, private cloud sync, the public leaderboard, result submission and deletion work exactly as described above, with the same service and the same separate choices: signing in never turns on sync or public ranking. Google’s sign-in button and script load from Google only when you open Sign in. To tell you when a newer version is ready, the app reads the public release file on this site; nothing about you is sent.

The 4.0 web edition adds three read-only checks. Board status and recovery check the current daily position and earlier positions on your route for free. Complete certified indexes provide exact answers; older puzzles can also recover to a position on a separately replayed winning route. Where there is no proof, the answer remains unknown; a verified recovery point is not always proven to be the latest possible one. Par tells you the fewest possible splits after you finish. Both send the puzzle identifier and your current route to the service for replay. The service does not store the route, does not record assistance and does not change points or rank. On Learn and Library boards these checks, and hints, are calculated on your device and nothing is sent.

How others did shows how many validated results used each split count on a ranked Medium or Hard daily. It uses only results already eligible for public leaderboards, shows counts rather than names, and stays hidden until at least 20 such results exist.

Your streak, badges, per-tier statistics, lesson progress and settings are kept in this browser with your local saves. They are not sent to the service. When you sign in and choose account progress, they follow that choice on this device. Invited testers may receive a preview link; it sets a cookie that holds only the preview mode and its expiry, with no identifier. If you open the previous version at /?view=v3, a session cookie remembers only that choice (the value v3) until you close the browser or return with /?view=v4.

Cookies and technical records

SplitEvens uses cookies for sign-in, account sessions, and guest hint sessions. Browser storage also keeps local saves, sync choices, and operations waiting for acknowledgement. Requests carry network information, such as your IP address, to the hosting and sign-in providers. SplitEvens uses a hashed IP value to limit repeated sign-in requests.

The account service keeps consent changes, deletion records, request identifiers, timestamps, and limited technical records to operate the game, prevent duplicate actions, and protect account state. Sign-in credentials and session tokens are not included in Unity gameplay state or recovery exports.

Leaderboard views and interface assets

The Today, Month and All time views read existing public rankings. Opening a leaderboard does not submit your route or enroll you in public participation. Month and all-time results use the same public profile and consent choices as daily results.

The game font and interface assets are served from the SplitEvens origin. Loading the font does not send a separate request to Google Fonts or another font provider. The application version on this page is updated during each deployment; the policy revision and review date change only after a disclosure review.

Your deletion and sign-out controls

Cloud and account deletion require a recent sign-in and a successful service acknowledgement. Other browsers and exported recovery files are not remotely erased.

Retention and limitations

Local data remains until you remove it or your browser removes it. Cloud account data remains until you use the applicable deletion control; turning sync off or hiding public participation is not deletion. Technical records and privacy audit records have separate retention. The service does not promise a fixed time for removal from hosting logs or backups, and a verified backup retention schedule has not yet been published.

Local display and progress tools

Version 3 keeps tile-label and solid-surface preferences in this browser. The Progress screen reads only the current player’s eligible local saves; it does not publish them. Support summaries contain the app version and basic screen/save status, not account identifiers, routes or solutions. Nothing is sent automatically when a summary is created or copied. There are no memberships, payments or added analytics in this release.
